Mothers Day

This year my Mother’s Day was everything I had hoped for and more. It kicked off with my first ever Mothers Day tea party at preschool. I loved every moment of it. The excited little voices on the other side of the door waiting patiently to greet us, the little hand that took mine and escorted me to my seat, the carefully rehearsed “Would you like a cup of tea to go with your muffin?” and the beautiful tea light holder that now rests proudly on my windowsill. Though I have to say what really tipped the scales were the songs accompanied by hand actions. Yes that was me, the teary mom in the front, videoing with my iPhone. Oh man, I’m going to be a wreck when they go to kindergarten.

This was only the beginning of my Mothers Day. A whole four days of festivities dedicated to me and all the mothers surrounding. What’s not to like about that? When it comes to parenting, it is very true when they say it takes a village… Well my village is spectacular! At naptime on Saturday afternoon I decided to take advantage of a quiet house and sit down with my computer. As I sat there, attempting to draft this blog post, I found myself thinking about all of the amazing mothers in my life. Being that my passion (and the reason for this blog) is photography, I started thinking about ways to tie it all together. I soon found myself on a mission to capture the beauty that is motherhood in the women that are closest to me.

As is par for the course being married to me, my husband has come to expect fully packed weekends and schedule changes on a moment’s notice. Knowing that the day was mine, it never crossed my mind that he may have made plans. Thankfully, he is amazingly supportive in all areas of my life and didn’t even bat an eye when I excitedly told him about my plan to spend the better part of my Mothers Day afternoon taking photos. He just quietly changed his plans and never made a fuss. I am one lucky lady.

My day started with a trip down to Crescent Beach with my Mom. It was the embodiment of a perfect morning for me. A beautiful day, my kids having a great time, my mom  all to myself, and a latte – bliss! Anyone that knows me knows that I’m all about productivity and multitasking, and this morning proved to be all of the above. A great time was had by all, I managed to get a photo of my girls with their grandma, and also a very rare photo of me with my little ladies. Talk about killing birds with stones! All that was left was a stop for lunch at Grandmas, and then home for naps.

With the kids in bed I set off on my journey. Although not everyone I tasked with this request was available at such short notice, I did manage to line up six lovely ladies in various states of their mothering adventure. For me this turned into a fantastic opportunity for reflection; new mothers reminding me of my own journey and how far my girls and I have come, mothers of children similar in age to mine reminded me of how small my girls still are, and the older children assured me that there is so much more fun yet to come. There are no words to properly describe how incredibly grateful I am to be a Mom. I have so much love and respect for all of these women. Thank you, Ladies, for letting me be a part of a day that celebrates you!
