Josh is ONE

If you stop to think about it, inviting a one year old to smash his birthday cake is an odd thing to do. Up to this point in their lives, it has been quite an accomplishment for toddlers to get food to mouth in a tidy fashion – an accomplishment which we tend to celebrate. They turn one, and suddenly we invite them to go elbow deep in a carefully crafted confection. Then we pause to wonder why it takes a moment for them to realize that they are allowed to do this? So it was with little Josh. This tentative little man simply wanted to take a moment to partake in the wonder that was his first piece of cake.

It may have taken a beat to get into this one, but I suspect Josh’s approach on his actual birthday will be vastly different. The sheer amount of cake on the studio floor is evidence that Josh is a quick study.
