I see Fathers Day on the calendar and my first thoughts are obviously that of my wonderful husband, my amazing Dad and all the fathers surrounding. What do I think about next, you ask? Well, that’s RAIN. If you weren’t aware before, I’ll tell you – it’s usually in the forecast for this particular weekend, as is the Ride to Conquer Cancer. The two seem to be synonymous. Check out the forecast. My rain gear is already by the door. This year will account for the fourth year of my team’s participation in this event, and my Dad’s second year riding. How lucky am I to spend Father’s Day riding along side the old guy? He’s almost 60 and still killing us on the flats. I continue to be amazed.
As per usual, my husband (the easy going guy that he is) seems to be unconcerned that he will once again forgo his day of pampering in order to support our team and this amazing cause. Having ridden the past three years himself, he has decided to join the cheering section and set his sights on the Whistler Fondo (a check mark on the ol’ bucket list). He, my youngest, my brother, and his daughter will be heading down to Seattle on Sunday morning to meet us at the finish line. The two guys will be braving a two and a half hour road trip with two toddlers, only to turn around and come home. If that’s not a testament to two exceptional fathers, I don’t know what is.
My girls and I have spent the week busying ourselves with Father’s Day preparations. My kitchen is disastered and the “washable” paint may never come off the patio, but we are ready. Have I mentioned lately how much I love being a mom? We have had such fun keeping secrets, sneaking around and dropping hints. These kids have brought magic back to all of my holidays.
To my Dad, you are an inspiration. You prove time and time again that hard work and dedication pays off and that there is still value in a gentleman’s hand shake. We are so grateful to have you and I couldn’t imagine a better Papa for my little girls. To my brother, thank you for being such a wonderful, hard working father to my beautiful niece. She is lucky to have such a thoughtful, loving and easy going role model. Finally, to my husband, I want you to know that we notice and so appreciate all of your hard work, love and support. We will continue to count the minutes until your home, every day. We love you too the moon.
Happy Fathers Day!
