Layne is FIVE

How could I not have seen this coming? How could this little girl be five? I have watched so closely, and still the years snuck by. First smiles, first steps, first words, and now first days of school.

Five year olds take anticipation to a whole new level. What used to be a party based on my own vision has evolved into a collaborative event. The parties I have planned in the past seem to have given this little one license to dream big. I get a thrill out of going the extra mile for a smile and a memory. Birthday parties in my house are weeks in the making. Once a year, I have an opportunity to lavish all my attention – every detail counts.

Experience has taught me that if you set a beautiful table, children will behave beautifully. So, when Layne approached me with the idea of having a tea party for her birthday, I did not hesitate to call grandma about borrowing the tea set.

Aside from the odd pilfered sugar cube and one splattered cupcake, the party was a roaring success. Belle was beautiful, charming, and right on pointe. I’ve come to expect nothing less from As You Wish Princess. That being said, I am well aware that the days of our princess parties are numbered, but at this point I fully intend to capitalize on the magic of it for as long as I can.

Laynie girl, you are as beautiful as you are charming. The depth of your being amazes me. Your take on the world inspires me to be a better person. I know there are days that these deep feelings overwhelm you, but they are good and strong and I promise you, one day they will be your biggest asset. You feel the world while others see it, and I would not have it any other way.

Happy Birthday little one – you were the Belle of your own ball.
