This past August I had the great privilege of being a bridesmaid in my sister in-law’s wedding. This is where I met Meghan. Meghan and I hit it off immediately. You know how, if you work your way back through a movie you wonder how you didn’t see the plot twist coming? Well, now that I think about it, Meghan didn’t participate in the pre-wedding partying, she didn’t partake in the champagne toasts and she was hoarding pizza pretzels in her hotel room. Yes, that’s right, she was also hiding a tiny little baby bump. You’d think I’d be tuned into these sorts of things. Alas, I missed the elephant in the room again!
Every hour of Meghan’s birthday this year has been committed to memory. 20 hours of labor, followed by 3 hours of pushing, only to be followed by a C-section. She has now achieved Wonder Woman status in my books. But as far as birthday gifts go, I can’t imagine a better one. On March 27th Meghan and Blaine welcomed little Jasper into the world. This little guy has not had an easy start – two weeks’ worth of doctors, nurses and IV’s. This little family has been put through the ringer! They seem to have taken it all in stride. I am amazed by their strength.
I had the pleasure of spending the morning with Meghan and her mom at her house in Port Moody. I have to admit, throughout our bridesmaid adventures together I often found myself envious of Meghan’s craftiness. I should have known. When I arrived, there was a pile of beautiful handmade hats ready to go for Jasper’s modeling debut. Motherhood clearly comes naturally to this girl. She’s going to be one tough act to follow.
Jasper is a darling little baby and a dream to work with. These are the kind of days that I know I have taken my career in the right direction.
Jasper, you are one lucky little boy! To be born into such a beautiful, loving, supportive, happy family. As a nurse said to Meghan’s mom, “It is so nice to know that this baby is going to have such a wonderful life.” Things are only looking up from here, little man!
